Aaron Rodgers

Today began with a resolution on the future of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. After months of speculating if he was frustrated enough to step down or call trade. He will stay with this franchise, but he will do so with a four-year, $200 million renewal with a whopping $153 million in guarantees. As a result, Rodgers is now the highest-paid player in football. And that didn’t even make it the biggest story of the day.

That honour goes to Russell Wilson, the new Denver Broncos quarterback after that. Franchise agreed to acquire him as part of a deal with Seattle. There were many talks that Denver would be a likely landing spot for Rodgers should the quarterback ask for a trade. The Broncos had continued negotiating with the Seahawks for weeks to finalize this deal. It makes AFC West the strongest league in football and Rodgers, the scrap heap.

Winner

1) Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst

No NFL general manager has come under more scrutiny in the past year than the man who controls the Packers’ roster. It was chosen as Rodgers’ primary opponent when that dispute became public knowledge last winter. Gutekunst is the man who designed Rodgers’ supposed successor, Jordan Love, two years ago. It was the man who carried on the tradition of saying goodbye to certain veterans that Rodgers wanted to keep on the roster from years gone by. Gutekunst created a log that produced three seasons with 13 straight wins. The way Rodgers spoke, Gutekunst and, to some extent, Packers president Mark Murphy were primarily responsible for all the quarterback’s frustration.

2) Broncos Gm George Paton

The Broncos G.M. has been in a great position this offseason, with a solid roster and plenty of cap room. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a quarterback, and he just landed one of the best in the business. Wilson’s arrival immediately brands this team a Super Bowl contender.

3) Packers Wide Receiver Davante Adams

Rodgers’ recent move gives Adams, arguably the best wide receiver in the league. More clarity on approaching his future in Green Bay. He couldn’t agree on a long-term contract last offseason, and the Packers just hit him with the franchise tag. But we do know this: Adams no longer has to wonder if Green Bay is worth staying. He forged an incredible relationship with Rodgers that could ease the pain of not being able to test the free market when it counts.

4) Houston Texans Quarterback Deshaun Watson

The Texans quarterback still has a lot to deal with regarding the numerous sexual misconduct lawsuits he still faces. After closely a year of so little movement in those investigations, Watson’s civil indictment is schedule for Friday. The same day the region attorney investigating Watson’s ideas to present his case to a grand jury, which will decide on charge him or not. In addition, Rodger’s stay in Green Bay and Wilson’s move to Denver makes it even more likely that Watson has willing suitors. But, of course, when teams see Stafford and Tom Brady win the Super Bowl in their early years with new units, that happens.

5) 49ers Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

Garoppolo isn’t as brilliant as Rodgers, Wilson or Watson, but his bazaar has grown exponentially. While Watson’s legal setbacks are a stumbling block in this situation. The most significant blow to Garoppolo these days is the shoulder surgery he underwent this week. In addition, Garoppolo just led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game and led that franchise to a Wonderful Bowl in the 2019 season.

Loser

1) Packers Quarterback Jordan Love

So much for his career with the Packers. To be fair to Love, who Green Bay traded for a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, he has only had one start since entering the league. He was criticize for how outstanding he looked in a 13-7 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but he still has plenty of time to become a productive player in this league. This entire game showed that the Packers would be insane to ditch Rodgers and pin their franchise’s hopes on Love at this point. Love is probably exchange somewhere. He might end up like Garoppolo, who was draft to replace Tom Brady in New England before being traded to San Francisco.

2) Kansas City Chiefs

Mahomes caused quite a stir when he signed a 10-year, $450 million extensions in July 2020. This deal blew up both the money he made and the money he left on the table. Nevertheless, Mahomes was happy to agree to an amicable agreement over such a lengthy schedule with the team. It gave the Chiefs the flexibility to kind roster changes to keep them in contention for a championship. He also signed this contract a few months after winning his first Super Bowl.

3. The Seahawks Receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett

Imagine waking up one day to find your quarterback is a consistent Pro Bowler and then finding out he’s playing Denver that afternoon. And that the only signal-callers on his list right now are Jacob Eason and Drew Lock. And that you’re going through a rebuilding process without the only quarterback you’ve ever played with. The transition will be difficult for this duo. But, no matter which side you’re on in the Seahawks debate, there’s no doubt that Wilson had great chemistry with this pair of extensive receivers.

4) The Rest of the NFC North

There was a slice of hope in this partition for a few weeks. The Packers without Aaron Rodgers would have made life a lot easier for everyone. The Bears and Vikings are recruiting new trainers and managers. The Lions have a second pick in the draft and a coach and general manager who has only remained with the franchise for two years. The division’s second-best quarterback, Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins,is not guaranteed to stay. With this club because his salary cap for next season is $45 million, which could be lowered to $10 million when the Vikings trade it.

5) The Pat Mcafee Show

Rodgers made this podcast a staple throughout the year, and his regular appearances helped. The show secure a $120 million deal with FanDuel. McAfee will likely have no problem entertaining its guests in the future. But that segment with Rodgers will remain a lot less attractive if this continues.
